Directions: From Highway 151 (coming out of Madison), take the Highway N-Bristol St. exit. Turn right on N. Bristol St. Take a left on E. Klubertanz (follow it until it "T"'s with Columbus St.). Take a left on Columbus St. The cemetery will be on the right-hand side.

On the northeast corner of Sun Praire, sits the Sacred Hearts Of Jesus And Mary Cemetery.

At first glance, you may think that this is a newer cemetery (the grounds are very well kept), however, in this case, looks are misleading. The Sacred Hearts Cemetery was actually established in 1868, by the Sacred Hearts Of Jesus And Mary parish (having just been started itself, in 1863).

Famous artist, Georgia O'Keeffe (who was herself born and raised in Sun Praire), has family, including her father (Francis O'Keeffe), uncles, and grandparents buried in Sacred Hearts Cemetery.

Playing a major role in the cemetery's "spiritual upkeep", parish officals hold special services on Memorial Day, and All Saints Day, to honor and pray for the souls of all those that are buried within her walls.

  • Colored lights have been seen moving inside the cemetery.
